Ada Jaffery (March 12, 2015_August 22, 1924  ), was a Pakistani poet who is considered as the first female Urdu poetess to be published and is called "the first woman of Urdu poetry". She was also a Christian who was considered a prominent figure in modern Urdu literature. In recognition of his efforts, he received awards from the Government of Pakistan, the Pakistan Reuters Guild, and literary societies in North America and Europe.Ada Jaffery was traditionally part of a conservative society where women were not allowed to think and express themselves freely. But he was bold enough to express it. Despite having tradition embedded in his personality, he took part in modern art. In the early 1950s, she was recognized as the first woman in Urdu poetry. Her mother, and her husband, Noorul Hassan Jafari, encouraged her to continue her literary activities despite social difficulties. She was a student of great poets like Akhtar Sherani and Jafar Ali Khan Asar Lucknowi and through them her poetry was examined and corrected.Ada Jaffery died on the evening of March 12, 2015 in a Karachi hospital where he was being treated, at the age of 90. His funeral prayers were offered at Hilal Mosque in Karachi. He was buried on March 13, 2015 at PECHS Cemetery, Jamshed Town, Karachi.
